Get to Know Melania
I have been practicing as a psychologist and therapist for well over a decade now. I have put my heart and soul into my practice, every minute of it.
First things first, you probably would like to know about my training and experience. I completed a Master’s in Clinical and Community Psychology in Italy back in 2005, where I have also practiced as a psychologist in psychiatric clinics. I mainly specialised in the field of eating, depression, anxiety and personality disorders, together with the leading of psychoeducational therapy groups. During my training I have also worked as a psychologist in residential communities, actively following a wide range of teenagers and adults with different spectrum of difficulties, from integration issues to psychosis.
I then completed a professional degree in psychotherapy, with a Transactional Analysis approach, in the Netherlands (2020). This approach integrates psychoanalytical, cognitive and humanistic models, and inspires me to regularly expand my professional competencies acquiring new tools, amongst which Mentalisation-Based Treatment (MBT). I value and respect every individual in their unique functioning and resources, which is why I ultimately apply the approach that best fits who you are. In the Netherlands I am a member of the Netherlands Institute of Psychologists (NIP).
I would also like to share a bit about my personal background and life, maybe this could help you get to know me better. I grew up in Italy, but I’ve always had this drive inside myself to explore what’s out there. I think deep inside I also felt that I didn’t quite belong where I was, and I was looking for a place where I could thrive, or perhaps simply feel I could become who I am.
I then decided to challenge myself and move to Ireland. I did love it there, dearly. I still feel somehow connected to the country and the folks of Ireland. And yes, though closer to myself than I had ever been before, I still quite hadn’t found a place to settle down. I relocated to the Netherlands in 2009, and I’m still here.
During my first years in the Netherlands, before I opened my practice, I have worked as student advisor, mentoring students throughout their journey, helping them overcome their struggles and impasse. I enjoyed it, but it felt like a compromise. I guess that this leads us to where I am today. I have found the courage to step out of that uncomfortable comfort-zone and trust myself to open my own practice in 2013, aligned with my values and with what, simply put, makes me feel whole.
Outside work, I am also a spinning instructor, love exploring the world, cycling, reading, enjoying music and concerts, come up with new projects that give some zest to my life, chilling at home enjoying the “dolce vita”, and spending time with close friends.
I love what I do and feel inspired by the incredible people I have the opportunity to meet and guide.
